CLP Classification and Labelling

Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures, came into force on 20 January 2009. Implements GHS in the EU.

It required all substances and mixtures to be reclassified and relabelled:

  • By 1 December 2010 for substance
  • By 1 June 2015 for mixtures

It requires the Manufacturer / Importer to;

  • classify, label & package substances and mixtures before placing them on the market.
  • classify substances not placed on the market that are subject to registration or notification under REACH.
  • submit (and update) notifications to C&L Inventory
  • keep up to date and update classifications.
  • keep records on classification for at least 10 years.
